          Hi Tony,
Get her in the warm indoors asap and offer feed and water. A few white fishing maggots will usually tempt a hen who feels crook. What symptoms is she showing?

Hopefully it'll be nothing or maybe a nice surprise for you. The OH's hen, Hendrix, hung around for a couple of days looking very sorry with neck pulled in and feathers all up, not really interested in food to positively prancing round the garden very proud to have laid her 1st egg! I hope it's the same for you

A couple of ours also went into a real decline before laying their first eggs - sitting hunched up, not eating and generally looking like they'd given up the will to live. This could last for a couple of days and when they produced the egg they'd perk up again - this went on for several weeks before they finally seemed to get into the hang of it and now have no problems. Warm mash with a bit of poultry spice seemed to tempt them to eat and perk them up a bit (but I'd have to shut the others away or they didn't get a look in!)

What did the vet say was wrong? Has there been any improvement? I was very lucky with my vet as only charged for medication.
