  • Thought we had turned a corner, no rain!!

Having spent 3 weeks watering my allotment, the last week, I have had a complete turnaround!!!

Three bags of mud today alone, what a nightmare!!

I had to share this, as I near the end of my first 12 months of allotment ownership and chicken keeping. Although we have the highest rainfall in the south west, I have never seen such mud in my entire life.....

      why are you watering already?

Ok T, so you were fed up of the rain and wanted rid, did you have to send it on to me
My track is under 2' of water, the water barrels are overflowing, the chooks wouldn't come out without wellies and even Erryn (my claustrophobic, stand out in a thunderstorm, horse) was stood huddled in the barn.

I suspect you mean whatever nice weather it wont last, cause this bl@@dy awful rain is doing my nut.

I've been up the allotment to sort the chucks this morning and its horrendous, there are huge puddles of mud, so I've put a couple of pallets down and left the horse blanket over the ark, at one point all 9 were huddled (new and old) in the ark which was only made for 3/4 and I didnt hear one argument!

My chook run - which was drying out nicely now resembles a flippin swamp again. Chooks don't seem to care all that much to be honest, but I do!!!

Have been putting grub under cover for them.

Fed up with the rain here too - the hens are not impressed with the black tarpaulin we put over their run as it is a bit dark under it. I am pleased with it though as it has kept the run a little more sociable (hens not up to their bums in mud).

It's back to muddy eggs again here - my girls never wipe their feet before going into the nest boxes
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

One thing I have noticed is that cockerels are quiet when it rains, every cloud......

Well we got SNOW today. So there
I couldnt have a polytunnel, too close to the shore, with nothing as a windbreak. When the wind blows it flippin hoolies, just comes across flat at 30mph, and thats a calm day. Wind chill is a real problem sometimes.
Makes a change as Ive spent the last two days shoveling mud too.
