Hi everyone, thanks for all the interesting posts, this site has been a great source of information whilst we have been planning on getting hens. We finally became proud owners of 4 chickens and coup via Omlet last week. They seem to have settled in well, all getting on together and have started laying. There are 2 Ginger Nut Rangers- Ginger & Phoebe, & 2 Miss Pepperpots -Delilah & Edwina. Phoebe was the first to lay, they love plain yoghurt, could anyone tell us if cow parsley leaves are safe for them to eat? We have had a strong wooden run made for them and try and let them out most days in the garden. Here are some photos of them enjoying my plants !

I'm not sure about cow parsley but in general chooks don't eat things which are harmful to them. There is a list of plants harmful to hens somewhere but I haven't discovered how to post links so you'll need to Google it or maybe Nicos will be on line later - she's really ace at posting useful links.Comment

Aww they look lovely, but G4 is right about your plants. If you don't want them destroyed net the off or stand guard otherwise they will savage them.
They trully do eat anything, but i'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong - rhubarb and dicentra's are as far as i know toxic to chooks. They are generally good and letting you know what they like and what they don't like.
It's always fun introducing them to foods that they haven't had before.
Should of seen mine when I gave them their first bowl of porridge - they avoided it like the plague for the best part of an hour, just danced around it as if it was gonna attack them! lol
The biggest question is, how long before you get some more chooks?Comment

YAY! A chook named after me and so like her name sake, she must be the one leaning in to the raised bed with the big bum.
