  • Great News!!

I took 6 eggs from my girls last week and popped them in the incubator to test the fertility.
Last night I candled them and all 6 are fertile

How great are my girls? (and boys of course)

I am so proud I could burst

        That's really good news!!!!

I can understand why you would by-pass the mums ( after all the worry I've been through!)
4 of my 13 were sterile....I wonder how that could be with 2 cockerels????

I have 2 cockerals running with 6 girls at the moment and I'm sure one of the boys is still practicing as he never seems to be quite in the right position.

The girls have not gone broody or they would have been left to get on with it.

This really was an experiment to see if they were fertile as my avatar was them last august so they are still quite young. As is life it maybe only 1 of the boys doing the deed, who knows.

Only the very best of broodies can safely get on with the job while sharing run space (and especially nest box space) with layers, and the smaller the run, the more strongly it applies. Give a girl a chance, and make sure all her eggs started to be brooded at the same time!
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.
