| I've just ran out of space in the house, the last window sill is full to bursting with tomatoes, onions(seed), cabbage, cucumbers, chillies ect and my tatties are still chitting in the old pantry. The tatties are going in big pots and I've a bit worried about them blowing away, I lost a few like that last year. My beds are dug over, covered and ready to go. I've been planting spring onions, carrots, various lettuce & the first of my peas are in. My question is, the weather is still a bit cold and the wind is blowing stuff all over the place, when should I start planting out? I have a wee plastic greenhouse thats very stable, its never going to blow away(famous last words). Can I put any of my plants in there or is it still too cold? I've read and reread so much I think I've got myself a bit lost! ![]() Cheers Al |

| Got pumpkins, lettuce and cabbage plugs and a few herbs in my plastic greenhouse (also hopefully not going to blow away, has survived a year now just one zip broken )The toms spend their days out in the grenhouse, the lettuce and cabbage move out onto garden table to make way. Spuds chitting on various windowsills, pepper and melon sedlings on south windowsills in warm rooms. Seeds and baby plants in propagators wherever they'll fit!! It's like a massive jigsaw but it's fun doing the rounds checking on all the stuff... |

| I have this week put my spuds in the ground, so the kitchen windowsill is now freed up for further sowings. I've just today taken the broad beans and onions out of the greenhouse and they are being hardened off in the yard (kitchen floor at night). The greenhouse now has space for more sowings, but will soon be full again with allsorts.

| I'm in Edinburgh Nicos, the long range forecast predicts no frost for the next 2 weeks but I'm worried about chancing it. Just wondering what I can risk in the wee greenhouse. I've filled every window sill in the house and the next door neighbors, hope they don't come back from holiday too soon!! Cheers Al Last edited by alinver; 01-04-2008 at 08:20 PM. |

| I think I need two mini-greenhouses! I have some plants that could be hardened off enough to go in a fleece-covered unit, but there's stuff like chillis that's not ready to go outside onto the (south-facing) patio until it's much warmer, and I can't have open shelves indoors or the Burmese cats climb all over them ![]() Lord knows where I'll put everything next month!

| Alinver Your cabbages will certainly survive in the mini greenhouse, possibly your toms depending on what size and variety they are, but the cukes and chillies I would leave inside for now. If your tattie pots are blowing away, fill the very bottom with grit or gravel to give the pots some weight. It'll also help with drainage.

| Thanks sewer rat, I'll put the cabbage out tomorrow and half the toms, its not the end of the world if I lose a few and it'll free up some space. I'll keep the cucumbers and chillies in just now. Although it gives me an excuse to buy the beautiful wooden greenhouse at the garden centre ![]() Thanks for the help all, I can't work out whether I'm 2 weeks behind or 2 weeks in front! ![]() Cheers Al |
