Not at all, most places will still have them. If you have time though, get over to a "potato day" if one is being held near to you. You can buy tubers individually if you want so that you can try out varieties without buying a whole bag as well as more of your favourites.

These potatoe days sound good piglet, any up our neck of the woods you know of?

Seed potatoes are not on sale up here yet - probably mid January. I don't like to get mine too early as getting them into the ground before mid April is normally difficult.

As said above you should still be able to order, however if ordering from a catalogue be aware that some of the popular varieties may have sold out in which case the potato day is the saviour.

We are planning to go to the one in Whitchurch (nr basingstoke) in jan to pick up some bits and pieces (and some Maris Piper for Mr E).

I like the idea of being able to buy just a handful of seed of a particular variety to try it out.

I have noticed the garden centres are just starting to get them in if you want to buy them in person. :-)

We have a 'plant man' on the market in Loughborough. He will get them in around mid jan and I've put my name down for some Picasa already - best jacket potato I ever tasted! He gets several varieties, earlys and maincrops and was reliable last year.

Went to my local Wyvale today (other gardening centres are available) they had loads of seed potatoes in along with shallot and onion sets. The seeds potatoes I notices were £2.99 for a kilo net (I think). They had loads of different varieties.

                          How exciting!

I was looking through the catalogues that came with my GYO today, and trying to decide whether to order my spuds or get them from our allotment shop this year. Now I've seen this I've decided to go to Potato Day in Whitchurch instead!

I had problems with blight and storage this year - our first year growig stuff - so can hopefully get some good advice on which varieties to buy.

Are they all available to buy individually? I love the idea of just having a few of several varieties.
