  • Mushrooms in my Strawberries!!!

Just finished the watering and noticed there were two mushrooms growing in with my alpine strawberries!!

They looked like dodgy mushrooms - pics of the type below, tho pale grey not reddy brown, more like the 2nd one. Very small though.

I have no idea how they can have got in there - I use containers and most of them have been brand new this year. Unless it was from that mouldy compost? Though I didnt think I used that on the strawbs???

Probably from the compost. I don't think it is unusual and nothing to worry about - just don't eat them. I have found that I often get mushrooms/toadstools in areas that have been mulched with cardboard.

Ok thank you I have thrown that particular pot in the bin anyway - it was only a small one and I would have been totally paranoid about it, and plenty of other strawberry plants left so no great loss. It just left me really shocked thinking how they could have got there and whether they might come up in some of the other pots.

      Eeeek.

Thank you - found some in my bag of MPC that has been open a week or two, it was only little but I had already poured loads of the compost around my plant and wouldnt have got it all out. So I have left the compost and just removed the mushroom, but now worried that they will reappear as they spores are obviously in there?

I found some last week hidden amongst my strawberries, like everyone else has said dont worry.
I dug mine up and the straws still seem ok, I keep checking them more than the others but they seems fine x
