I thinkI would have to have a pleasant word asking them to keep their bit tidy. It's only fair.
We have a similar prob with private wasteground next to our house that we strim as it's so unsightly and unmanageable with weeds and have just applied to land registry to find out who it belongs to so I can ask them to keep it tidy. I am currently scrounging cardboard boxes to cover it so we don;t have to keep maintaining it.
So I know how irritating it is!

Ah, I know the feeling myself. I've never risked putting dandelions on my own compost heap though, just in case they didn't compost fully.Today's mistake is tomorrow's compost...Comment

Speaking as someone who has just taken on a plot i am battling trying to get the weeds under control. I pull piles of stuff out and then dandelions, dock and couch grass appear in different places by the next time i go to the plot!! It isn't for want of trying.
The family next to my plot have taken on a plot that is very over grown and i am getting things coming over from their plot too, however they are working really hard and i know that they will eventually tame their plot. It is frustrating for you i know but that's gardening for you, the weeds always grow faster than the plants you are cultivating!! Dandelions are one of the prettiest weeds too!!When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. ~Author UnknownComment

My neighbours are really good at keeping their gardens tidy, It's the Blummin local authority that isn't pulling its weight at the mo, there's areas of grass round here that have 2ft dandilions.Comment

Pick the flowers for dandelion wine! It's a pity dandelions are thought of as weeds, they really have an attractive flower and you can eat the leaves.Comment

I think it looks quite nice in a natural kind of way. It'll certainly be better for wildlife.

i have the same problem with my neighbour .... so when robs cutting my lawn i send him round next door too ..... neighbour chuffed, me with extra mowings for compost, and son fed up of mowing but happy cos i made his tea and theres no reason not to compost dandelions as long as you catch them before they seed
