Patio fruit trees

I have got two dwarf apple trees i pots on my drive way. I bought them off the internet. For the first three summers they grew and flowered but never fruited. They are now both about 2 meters tall and this year both have fruited. I have loads of apples growing. I also have a dwarf pear tree witch is still just flowering but it is a bit smaller than the apple trees.

I will post some pictures later. I think i paid about �15 for all three.

From what I have found they are just trees on dwarf rootstock. With that in mind you can plant them in the ground but may struggle to get to a decent size shape/tree as well as decent fruit if the conditions are not good. Again even in a pot they still require a fair amount of attention. Using the word patio usually seems to command a higher price. However there is often offers on them and I think several grapes have bought in the past when on offer.

Yes mine were on offer at the time. With them being in a pot they do require lots of water during summer. I give them some grow more fertilizer a couple of times during the growing season as well. If truth be told I should have repotted them at the beginning of this year but never got round to it. I thought they would just flower and that be it as looking at the advertised pictures of the trees it looks like the have photo shopped all the fruit on the tree using the same tree for each type of fruit. The tree trunk had the same pruning signs!!!!!

But i was wrong and they are fruiting this year

Good morning chefgage, I'm glad your trees are now fruiting, that is really cheap can you remember where you bought them? I've seen a website selling them but at �39 each

Its on the tip of my tongue where I got them from but I cannot quite remember. Time for a bit of google and I will let you know.

This is where I got them from. I got the two apple trees and one pear tree deal for �15 but that was a few years ago now. But its only gone up to �24.97

I bought the dwarf fruit collection from Van Meuwen (same company as Thompson & Morgan, I believe). They are in pots at my allotment and the gala tree has loads of fruit on it (well, a lot for a 3' tree that I just got a few months ago), about ten altogether.

I should probably have removed the blossom or at least the fruit but I ordered the trees then got my allotment a couple of weeks later so was able to order some larger trees. The patio trees are no longer quite as important so I'm just leaving the fruit on out of curiosity to see what happens.

Haven't seen blossom or fruit on the pear (Doyenne du Comice) though.. Also bought their peach and nectarine collection.

I've just ordered these from there & I'm wonder if I can plant all three together in one large pot.....or would I be best giving them a pot each....any advice for a novice please

A proper gardener will be along shortly but in the meantime....blueberry bushes can get very large so you will need a large pot just for one. The page you have linked to says that they get to 3' wide and 4' tall so you would need to have at least 3' between each plant and even then they'd be squashed together.

Also, you'll want to use ericaceous compost in the pots.

I grow 3 types of blueberries in cut down plastic dustbins and they grow 3-4ft out of them, ericacious compost fertiliser in march/may/july and watered so they never dry out, the wetter the better , and we get a good crop out of these. with the patio fruit, we bought a patio apricot from the "range" shop (�6) three years ago, now fruiting, and we bought some "aldi" apples for �3.99 each and they are now fruiting in big pots 15ins across and we have a peach ,for 6yrs, that gives about 25-35 fruits per year, so if you give them good size pots, good soil, and water, they can really produce, and it doesn't cost much to try, we grow our melons in tubs too, I move the peach and apricot outside after fruiting to give them some "fresh" air.. seems to work wonders..

Anyone heard of Pear Harvest Green...patio tree? Had this for a couple of years, this year it has escaped the mighty Aphid and produced lovely blossom. Have just realised I need another pear tree to pollinate it doh!!...any suggestions as to which tree to buy. Have looked on Internet but can't seem to find anything.
