    Logan Berry question

    Hi,
    I have two Logan berry plants that for the past two years haven't done anything. Well this year they have taken off sending suckers everywhere and anything that touches the ground tries to root. I have put posts in and wire to try and support them as much as I can.
    I am going to have to move them for next year. Can I move them as soon as they have finished fruiting or it a case of move them when they are dormant?

    As with all fruit I would wait until they have started to go dormant before moving, but perhaps not too late before the soil has lost it's warmth, October? I think I am right in saying they fruit on the previous year's growth so the suckers which are all over the place now are your fruiting stems for next year. Seems a shame to move it now that it seems to have got started!

      Slight problem is they are like summer fruiting raspberries, they fruit on the previous years growth.
      So what is growing happily this year will fruit next year, so I would not expect fruit from the growth of this year.

      They will be best to move when dormant, and so you are likely to want to move it/them without pruning back, in effect try to keep the present growth for fruit.

      They are a pain to move with large canes - especially if they are not the thornless variety, I know that from direct experience. If they have thorns then get some very good gardening gloves, but expect them to draw blood - evil whatsits.
