  • Swallows

Saw a few this afternoon. Poor things must have wished they'd stayed the Spanish side of the Pyrenees as it was 4 degrees and throwing it down. Brrrr. Summer is coming :-)

I think that we saw one about a week ago but I think that he was the advance scout and he must have e-mailed the others about the bad weather so they have stayed away until it warms up a bit!

Apparently sand martins have arrived at Far Ings (River Humber) - they must be a hardy bunch!

Not seen any here yet. Always delighted to see them. You know summer's just around the corner when the first ones arrive.

I've often stood totally mesmerized by the sheer beauty of their swooping flight. There is nothing quite like it.

We have swallows nesting every year in the roof of an out building. I always look forward to seeing them... Not here yet!

Ours haven't turned up yet - they have nested in our outhouse for five years now and I hope they will be here again.

They're starting to arrive? That's a good sign. Swallows (and swifts and house martins) are such beautiful birds. An English summer wouldn't be summer without them.

I wish they stopped here, but they are just passing through. But there are more on the way as a big flock went over yesterday. Enjoy them.

I'm not far from Nicos but they have only arrived herein the last couple of days. They are showing interest in the cow shed, we have had them nesting in there for several years now.

We've only seen a few here on the west coast of Ireland, hopefully more will turn up but there certainly aren't as many as there used to be.

I use a mix of six scoops of compost three scoops of sand/grit and two scoops of perlite, the quantity is unimportant as long as the ratio is the same, if for seeds I use this mix, if I am potting on I add some blood, fish and bone, along with a small quantity of chicken manure pellets
