Thread title is a yoofamism (deliberate spelling) for thieving bar stewards who broke into my new plot last night. 8 show onions which were ripening off in my greenhouse taken also 4 show leeks pulled out of the ground, cut off a couple of inches from ground level, tops cut off and left and middle sections taken, . A single red onion pulled and top cut off - onion removed from site as also an ordinary onion.

Although I have no expectation of thief/thieves being apprehended I did report it to the police as clearly someone who is walking about with a knife big enough to cut through a 3" diameter leek could do a lot of damage with that knife to anyone who was to confront them.

I'm spitting feathers yet almost in tears as well. So disappointing.

How dreadful for you. I know I'd be devastated if anyone took anything from my plot let alone something I'd worked so hard on. Hope police take seriously, they do if there is a knife involved.

I hope so too Wendy. I did stress my concerns about the knife and suggested a few random patrols may help apprehend those responsible.

Just as well you weren't there when it happened, I'd rather you be in one piece than your leeks..........but everything intact would be the best option.

Was the damage only on your plot AP because if it was then Zaz might be on to something.

Oh no AP! I am so sorry We went by the park where a show was yesterday and thought if you. Glad you weren't there when it happened.

                      Nasty gits.
When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it.
If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

These were my first thoughts too.

If it was just your plot I'd be very suspicious.

So sorry for the distress you're going through AP.

I am so sorry to hear about that.

I suppose we just have to accept that there are scum walking about particularly at night, when we ran our care home I hung 3 large hanging baskets out the front, next day they were gone, who would do that to a home for the mentaly ill? I hung new ones with large fishing hooks where the chain goes onto the bracket. I half expected to find the local vicar hanging there the next day. We had all our wicker garden furniture stolen, plants, all my fishing tackle out of the car, the list is endless and we are described as a good area! Allotments and gardens seem to be very vulnerable, if you were to catch them however and harm them in any way it is you who would be prosecuted! Makes me very very angry. Much of this petty theft is done by drug addicts, the police told me my baskets would have been sold for a £1 just to get the next fix, that annoyed me because I would have bought them back for more than that, they had cost me £60.

My competitors were involved at the biggest show in the area Zaz and we are all friends who enjoy the rivalry. Other plots were attacked as well. I'm not showing until this coming weekend as my stuff was late in with taking on the new plot which is why I wasn't at the local show
