I hope I don't come to regret this, but I've not seen a single slug this year. I wonder whether the winter has really knocked them back.

I found a smallish (3cm long) black one this morning when I moved some pots around, but thats all so far. I did find 3 ladybirds, so thats a bonus!! -

Not many yet, and quite small (but they still get to die) , but they're there, hiding in the wings, just waiting for when I plant out my seedlings.

Haven't seen the big tomato sausage ones yet, but there's lots of little ones knocking about...and snails, but I'm thinking of making a snailary this year, well I might as well put them to some good use.Comment

Unfortunately, I've been blessed with quite a few pairs of Song Thrushes here on The Funny Farm, so we're not blessed with Snails for more than a couple of hours at most!
Although... my own particular trick with Slugs, is to put down a tile, or a flowerpot, or a 'anything'..... lift it up the following day, hand-pick the slug(s), set them down on the concrete path, and oh no... we don't have any slugs anymore?
In all seriousness, and forget what I just said, but I do think there's a complete lack of slugs'n'snails this year, or is it me?
Now talk to me about Wasps just waking up, or wot?!Comment

Had a clean out of the pot-shed, found loads of semi-dormant wasps brrrr horrible things!
Lazgaot, you've obviously been nowhere near my compost heap! I lifted the sheet of polyethene off the top a couple of days ago and killed about 35 slugs and lost count of the snails!! Walking back up the path cheered me up, 'cos I had a chat to a weasel! Don't look at me like that, I don't get out much
He was v. cute and not at all scared. Really made my day!

Was potting on today in the greenhouse, and found a lovely yellow one in a plant pot, about 1" long, chicken thought it was christmas come early.Comment

Well, I must be lucky then! I've lobbed a few snails that were taking refuge in an old put, but honestly haven't seen a single slug yet.Comment
