    FAO: Flummery (or anyone good with a needle)

    So what I've done is:

    sewed a single Barbie duvet cover to a double duvet cover, because Little One won't give up her old Barbie quilt, but she now has a double duvet.

    It is basically just appliqued on top of the new quilt... so there are 2 layers of fabric.
    So, should I cut away the backing fabric, or not bother? It is a bit flappy.
    Or should I quilt the 2 layers together, to stop the flappiness?

    Once I cut it away, there's no going back

    why dont or didn't you just get 2 single duvet covers and sew them together to make a double duvet cover??

      I wouldn't cut away the backing if I were doing it. If you can quilt it - have a go. It needn't be too close together. However, it's much less frustrating with a quilting foot. This stops the layers of fabric sliding over one another which can lead to nasty ruckles at the end of a row if stitching. If your machine has one, try it. I'd not, I'd hand quilt around the big motifs just to hold it all together. It can be quick and easy if you use big-stitch quilting and an embroidery floss in, at a guess, pink!

        would the little one concider haveing the old one rolled /folded up,and use it as a cuddle/comfort pillow,instead of on the top of her,especially if it was possible to do it with barbie on full show,i do not know what the barbie quilt looks like,only had boys.

          I think I'd just do small, seperate stitches through all the layers in a regular pattern (either geometric, or to correspond with the printed design).

            Because I didn't have 2 single duvet covers, I had one, which is her Special Barbie Duvet That Can Never Be Thrown Away.

            Also, 2 singles don't make a double; a single is 138cm wide and a double isn't much bigger: 200cm wide.

            I cut the front off her Barbie duvet and stitched it on top of a cheap pink double duvet cover from QD. Total cost: £5
            The alternative would be to buy a brand new High School Musical duvet for £20 (you can't get Barbie in a double)

              That's the way to go. I will secure each individual stitch with a pink sequin!

              I don't have a quilting foot, and am hopeless at it anyway, having never mastered it at college (I've got a degree in Textiles)

                The separate stitches is what I meant by Big Stitch Quilting. The sequins is a touch of genius!

                            Well, I took the easy option in the end. I got some Madeira rainbow coloured machine thread and just outlined Barbie in that.
                            It's fixed the 2 layers together, and added a little interesting but subtle texture ... job done.
