  • Why is it I never get done what I set out to do.

Been to the lottie today with good intentions and this is what I planned to do
    1 plant 20 cabbages
    2 plant 100 red onions
    3 plant 20 shallots
    4 plant peas

Did I do any of this NO
    1 Left cabbages at home
2 Cut down sunflowers that had got blown down
    3 Cut back butternut squashes
    4 Dug up courgettes
5 Picked a few strawberries and moved some plants
6 Dug bits and pieces here and there Why
    Gardening ..... begins with daybreak
    and ends with backache

Because that's what it's for. Work is for targets, the lottie is for pottering, it all gets done.....eventually. When my OH returns from the plot, I always ask; 'Did you manage to do anything, or was ***** (insert name of chap on next-plot-but-one) there?'
The other evening I only had an hour there, I planted 100 onion sets, 10 cabbages, sowed a green manure and removed the spent climbing French bean plants. Did I feel proud? No, it just felt WRONG.

I go out to hang up some washing, have to duck to go through gate under a buddlea that I planted in the wrong place, go and get secataurs, cut back Buddlea, while I'm there cut back grape vine. Oh there's a bramble. The hens need cleaning out. The herb bed desparately needs weeding. (sounds familiar?) Then the dogs are barking, someone at the door. I go out at dusk to lock the hens away and there is my washing, still in the basket, still waiting to be pegged out!
        Relax, Jackie,you're among friends!!

You're only sad if you follow them to the letter. If you forget where you've put them and just go your own sweet way, then that's fine.

i lie in bed at night, then i think of something i gotta do tomorrow, so i write it down, then think of something else, before i know it, i've got a page full of stuff to do ....... then in the morning, i get up, forget all about it, then add some more the next night ........ i have so many bits of paper with lists on under my bed now, i'm surprised it still touches the floor

like today, i was going to sort the pop hole out on the chicken house ..... but instead i built a compost bin

I never seem to get done the things I actually planned to do at the allotments because I get distracted.

However I took on the allotments as a distraction from the rest of my life, so ipso facto, I did do exactly what I set out to do. Someone call a nurse please...
I am certain that the day my boat comes in, I'll be at the airport.

OH has given up asking what I intend to do and what I actually get done.

The good news is that there is growing stuff there and we get some of it (not all as there are lots of slugs, pigeons and squirrels competing with me for any spoils!). That, and the time out, fresh air, bit of exercise, thinking time.........are all good enough for me.
