  • wow, transport prices

We've been let down by a 'friend' who had promised to drive us from Heathrow back to Norfolk after our holiday.

    these are the transport options:

    1) coach. 6 hrs but we have to wait around for 3 hrs first to catch it (so actually 9 hrs). £38
    2) train. 4 hrs, but 3 changes with heavy bags. £61
    3) taxi. 3 hrs, no changes £70

we wanted to use public transport, but guess which we're choosing.

The river Trent is lovely, I know because I have walked on it for 18 years.

I know everyone will hate me for this but we went to Scotland on holiday this year. Normally we go camping on holiday but as it was Scotland I refused as it might rain (and it did). So we went in a static caravan so we could take my car instead of OH`s big diesel estate. Mine is a company car so we didn`t have to pay for the diesel. It cost about £150 for about 1500 miles.
But don`t hate me to much as I`m not paid very well so we have to use this so called perk to it`s advantage

Take the taxi, it will be far less stress. Or can you get another more reliable friend to take you and offer them petrol money?

Definitely the taxi... you'll be stressing about the journey home rather than enjoying your holiday.

I'd go for the taxi too, nothing worse than hanging around at the end of a holiday - i just want to get home

And "they" claim to be encouraging us to use public transport!!Now that Daisy should be paying(she's little for 6!!)It should cost us about £2.60 just to get into town on the bus~over a fiver if we want to come back!!!
I think I too would opt for the taxi!!When do you go?Have a great time!

When we got married we flew to Paris from heathrow couldnt get a flight from Exeter or Bristol so we caught the coach, approx five hour drive, cant remember how much, the one we caught got us to the airport in plenty of time the next one would have just made it providing the roads were clear. We slept in the airport as our flight was at seven in the morning ( easter monday 1996 ) went to check in and was told our flight had been cancelled TWO WEEKS previously and we were booked on the next flight, nobody had informed us, so we could have caught the next coach, when we got back we just made it to the coach in time and had about a five hour drive home.
We claimed compensation as the holiday company ( booked through travel agents ) hadnt written to us about the changes.
                  Have a great holiday.

It's crazy, isn't it? If I came to work it would take me about an hour and a half by bus/train, but takes 20 mins by car and a fraction of the cost. You can guess which I choose? There isn't any public transport to where I keep the ponies, so I'd still have to use the car anyway. I'd love to cycle, but the route to work is dangerous at best, suicidal at worst - my OH wouldn't even let me do it, I don't think. There are no cycle lanes and it's a long, windy road with HGVs using it all the time, at 40mph plus.

I used public transport all the time in the North and still do when I go and visit. For some reason when you go South of Nottingham it all goes to pot.

I also got the midnight coach to go to my aunties funeral in London, It was late getting to newton abbot 12.30 am ish the people who got on in Paignton had been on it for two hours by the time we got to exeter and the driver had to have his break. We got to Victoria coach station at 7 am. That was about 8 hours for the people who were first on.
How long does it take to drive that far 4 hours.
