  • Our allotment on the news - for the wrong reason

There have been very tragic events at our allotments in Hinckley, Leicestershire.

Sadly, a 27 year old man was murdered in his car at the side of our plots.

Our site is at Middlefield Lane, which is a residential street that ends with our site. There is a dirt-track along the outside of our fenced area which leads to an electric sub-station. The man was found at the end of the dirt track, actually at the side of my plot.

Middlefield Allotments are closed until at least Friday and the Police have been searching the allotments themselves looking for the murder weapon.

My thoughts are with this lads parents.
'People don't learn and grow from doing everything right the first time... we only grow by making mistakes and learning from them. It's those who don't acknowledge their mistakes who are bound to repeat them and do no learn and grow. None of us are done making mistakes or overflowing with righteous wisdom. Humility is the key.'

That's appalling, for you, as well as this unfortunate young man's family & friends. If something like that happened right next to my little oasis of calm... Well, I'd be anything but calm! I hope the police find the evidence they need without too much damage to the plots, and the hideous person/people that did this are caught very quickly.
Take care Middlefield, thoughts for the family & yourself.

So sad. I hope someone is brought to justice for this. Tragic for his family and friends.

                      Thanks for all the comments.

I was interviewed yesterday by the local paper, Leicester Mercury, I put to them that we have been complaining about drug taking that was happening on that area, unfortunately the Police have never sent down an officer and it seems to have culminated in this tragedy.

Its not good when we take our daughter to the allotment and have to explain what all the silver foil wrappers lying around are.

The allotments are closed until the search for the weapon is complete, we've been told this could be Saturday. I've been told that the plots nearest the fence have been strimmed, that includes ours, so I don't know what we've going back to.

But, I guess our worries are nothing compared to the tragedy unfolded. My frustration is that we've warned the authorities about the activities countless times and they have done nothing. Its all so sad.

What is happening to this country?

My first thought was "drug dealers".

Deepest sypathy go out to the family.

Not much more you can do other than keep on informing the authorities, but you do tend to find it takes a tragedy like this to prompt a response, Lets just hope they take things forward now.

Makes you want to cry/scream/shout/swear/tear your hair out doesn't it? We keep getting notes through Neighbourhood Watch advising you to call the police whenever you spot anything suspicious. Do they do anything if you do call?? In my experience, no. Even a 999 call takes ages to be answered, and a regular report just seems to be ignored. My car rear window was smashed with a brick in the early hours about a year ago. Reported first thing in the morning and it took the police 4 days to even come and see me about it!!!!!!!!!

Well, the allotments were allowed to re-open on Friday afternoon, however the bad weather kept us away so we got back in on Saturday.

Pleased to say that the Police search hadn't damaged anything and the rumours that they had strimmed the plots were unfounded.

So thanks to Leicestershire Police for respecting our allotments.

The site was fine, but we did have about 10lbs of runner beans and a similar amount of climbing french beans, and some huge courgettes

No news on catching the people that killed the lad, but lets hope they are caught soon.
