something is munching away on my strawberry plants, do you think it could be slugs!! Lots of holes in the leaves will be nowt left soon

That is weird, mine were kep outside until January and as I've discovered them strawberry plants are really tough birds. Sorry don't know what's eating your leaves though. Would be interested to hear what 'The Usual Experts' will have to say on this.

I think slugs/snails do eat strawberry leaves, especially at this time of year when there isn't much greenery for them to get at... Have a really good look round for where they could be lurking - the tiny underground ones (keeled slugs?

) could be lurking in the bottom of the pots - tip the plants out & look at the bottom of the compost. Also, my strawberry plants last year had some kind of caterpillar thing making a coccoon-y thing in the leaves and having a good old munch - looked a bit like spiders webs sticking the leaves together - they got chucked on the bird-table

Although I think it's probably too cold for them, so probably slugs/snails IMHO.

I still keep finding caterpillars in my garden - maybe it's too warm down here

will tip the plants out the pots and check the bottom of compost.
will look tomorrow morning and see if any little blighters are lurking

We have a slug/snail problem with our strawberries and the blighters don't seem to have had a break this winter, our brassicas are covered with them. Last summer we should have had a wonderful crop of strawberries, but the berries seemed to disappear just before they were ready to be picked. When clearing away an old cold frame though, we found all the semi-ripe fruit had been hidden there by a wood mouse who had tunnelled under the bird protection to steal them. As I've said before, I'm not a rodent fan, but this mouse was so cute and looked so miserable that we'd found her stash, that we left her alone to enjoy her ill-gotten gains.

I found holes in some of of my strawberry leaves this morning, and also there were what looks like munching marks on berries that were beginning to ripen (looks like something was crawling around on the berries and munching while it crawled). After looking around my berry patch, I found a few slugs. I like getting rid of the problem naturally, when possible, so I looked up how to get rid of slugs in my garden. The article stated you can either dig a hole deep enough for a small cup and fill it with beer (this drowns the slugs), or put a little corn meal in a pint jar and lay it in your garden (slugs that eat corn meal die). I'm trying the corn meal in a couple of pint jars laying in my berry patch. I'll let you know how successful this natural method of slug elimination is in a week or so.
