    Damaged Potatoes

    Hello

    I've just bought some seed potatoes. I've put them in egg boxes to chit as recommended on here. Unfortunatley a few of them are damaged, they are split or have bits chopped off. Is it still ok to plant these or will they be vunerable to disease?

    Also, should I be trying to chit, first earlies, second earlies and maincrop now or just first earlies?

    I've never grown potatoes before as you can tell.

    They will still grow you can cut larger seed potatoes in half and still plant them as long as both halfs have chits on them but I dont bother

      What varieties have you bought? Damaged ones will still grow, but keep an eye on them whilst they are chitting. Any that develop mould or fungus should be thrown out. Egg trays are ideal for chitting as it keeps the seed potatoes separate so they can't infect each other.

        Maincrop: Lady Balfour (I was tempted by the fact that they said it was blight resistant)
