  • Compost Supplier

Our small group of allotment (18) has a large shed where we sell a small amount of gardening products. Our compost supplier has stopped trading and we are looking for a new supplier. Our bigest problem is we would not want more than a 100 bag delivery and the cost need to be reasonable.

Hi gojiberry - I'd suggest looking for 'hoticultural wholesalers' or similar in yellow pages - otherwise, contact the National Association of Allotments and something Gardens (?someone will post with it's proper name, I'm sure...) to see if their local contact can point you in the right direction.

I think that Nick the Grief has their details if you're stuck.

Not sure if you're looking for something more specialist but Wilkinsons deliver a reasonable selection of their own brand plus a few John Innes etc for fairly decent rates.

I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

I strongly suggest that you contact your local council to direct you to a green waste composting site. Many have an excess of compost that they cannot get rid of because it has no real value and is mainly produced to reduce landfill. I know many sites that give it away free on a pick-up basis. The nutrient balance is very high (5% N) and you need you use it sparsly, but the results are amazing. It is full of lignin that holds moisture like a sponge.

Then all you then need is to arrange someone with a truck/van/trailer for collection.

I should say that we have that arrangement in Buckingham, it is both free and delivered.
