    Hello All

I have been reading on here for a few months reading all your posts, so decided to join. Here's my story.

I have been growing herbs the last few years and decided this year to put our names down for a lottie. Lo and behold, we became the proud owners of our plot (if not somewhat overwhelmed by the mammoth task we had set ourselves!) 4 days later!!!

There started the last four months of hard work and determination (weekends and after work graft). We have been lucky enough to be based on a very friendly 100+ allotment site and even though we decided not to grow anything this year, we were inundated on our first day with a huge array of plants. Everyone at the allotment site has been fantastic, giving us growing-virgins some outstanding advise.

Now we have turned, weeded, dunged-up-to-the-eyeballs, rotivated, bordered and built a pond. My other half has sourced the raised bed wood and a quirky shed (£25 from Gumtree!!!!) and everything now need to be erected.

We have even plonked down a few seeds, despite saying we wouldn't, and have had a good harvest of radish, beetroot, spring onions and tomatoes. So at least we know that all through all this hard preparation of the plot we can at least grow something!!!

I have joined here hoping to learn a few tricks of the trade and increase my ever growing knowledge of not only growing your own but also what to do with some of it!

    Here's hoping my 2014 will be a fruit-and-vegful one!!

Hello Lottie. Welcome to the Vine. I used to live about 3 miles from Ivybridge when I was a child - now relocated (or banished) to East Anglia as you can see from my location.

Fibber, it's always raining in Devon. We used to live just down the road from you. I used to walk from Cornwood to the cafe in Ivybridge & back again, through all the lovely lanes, talking to the sheep & ponies.
My grandad would drive to find me, insisting that I should get in the car, (he was an A to B, fast-as-possible man). He drove like a loony, not slowing down for the bends, just keeping his hand on the horn (get out of my way or I'll run you down!). Which is why I preferred to walk

Yep I am a fibber two sheds! Certainly the first year I moved here it was lovely. Although it is much, much warmer and certainly less wet than West Yorkshire! My grandad doesn't believe in roundabouts - I have to say that I prefer walking than getting in the car with him, especially when he wants to see the Blackpool illuminations!
