Default Hi

Hi.

Up until a couple of days ago whilst carrying out a Google search for fruit netting, I wasn't even aware that there were magazines that covered vegetable growing. I guess that's what comes of preferring to be in the garden, than venturing into shops.

Vegetable growing is a new and long overdue venture for me, and shown below is the plot that I have been making over the last few months, as and when time permits.
I have to say that now that I have broken the back of it and managed to finally get some planting carried out, I never realized just therapeutic simple things such as watering can be.
I still have a few more beds to make, the path ways to finish, and make a couple of benches to sit on, but the end is in sight.

This was the plot before starting.

And this is it now.

Since I installed the irrigation tanks, we have only had about two hours of rain. I'll be glad when it rains, so that they begin to fill up. The overall water capacity is 6000litres

The next job which is sadly a priority, is to make the garden as a whole deer proof. This isn't something that I have budgeted for, or even want to do, but
after this weekend when my most treasured clematis was eaten, enough has been enough! Incredibly, even the tops of a couple of the early potatoes were eaten.

Many thanks.

The plot did look even worse at one stage.

If I lived in Pembrokeshire and had this garden, you wouldn't even be able to see the fallen trees. I'd be out hiking and taking photos of the stunning scenery. Who needs a garden when you have all that.

Actually, posting that last photo has reminded me of how far that I have got with it. The bamboo was a major problem, and I have now just about eliminated it. I have also only being seeing the negative aspects of what there is still to do, rather than looking at what I have achieved.

Welcome to the vine and well done, EddieJ - and clearly you have a talented young helper there! Thanks for posting pictures for us all to drool over! We love to see what other Grapes are up to. I think those raised beds are very smart - what colour did you use on the wood?

Ah, that was kind of a good idea that turned into alot of work! I build oak framed buildings for a living, and when it comes to any wood that needs to be at ground level or below, I paint it with a bitumen paint. It's one that has been designed for water tank use, so not as bad or controversial as it may sound. The downside that I hadn't considered, is that everything needed two coats of the damn stuff. It held me up massively, and perhaps isn't something that I would recommend.

I take it you have visited Pembrokeshire then it is indeed a lovely place.

Glad to read that posting the pics has helped you to focus on your achievement. It is all to easy to get so buried in the hard work that you don't notice how much you have done.
