  • Hi from Leeds

Hiya, Just wanted to introduce myself & hope to pick up some tips along the way. Have had a busy summer building some raised beds for next year. I now have the task of filling them so I treat myself to a shredder & am amazed at the speed at which it heats up (not the shredder, the compost). I am getting compost in 6-8 weeks which is brilliant. This brings me to my question.
Has anyone any experience with compost tumblers?.......I have read quite a bit on them and it states you can get compost with 3-4 weeks. If this is true then I need to find somewhere local where I can get some food grade barrels. I look forward to chatting to you guys.

HI Bigmally, & welcome from another leeds grape, try freecycle (or whatever its called these days) for some food grade barrels there were some on last week and they seem to appear quite regularly. Where go you grow at home on on an allotment? I'm on Oakwood Lane Allotments

            Hi Bigmally.

Loads of advice here, but unfortunately I can't advise about the tumbler either as mine is just another darlek - sorry. Welcome to the vine though. Good growing!

Thank you for your kind comments, I tried sprouts, cabbage & cauli last year, the catterpillars loved them so I learned a lesson there. I'm gonna give swede, onions, & beetroot a go to start with then see what the wife fancies. Hi Hansmum, I grow in the garden in Killingbeck (have made 8 raised beds), only a stones throw away from you. I gave up on freecycles as I gave away stuff but never won a thing. Still it's an excellent site. I may go back & put a request in.
