  • Hello from sunny Walton-on-the-naze.

Ok, maybe not so sunny this time of year.
Not long joined this forum, but already on my 9th post.

We where one of the lucky ones in my area to get an allotment plot a few years ago. The reason we wanted a plot was not just because of the major increase of food prices over the last few years, but to also know what we are eating and to teach the kids where fruit and veggies come from.
Myself and my fiancé have 3 young kids living at home and the cost of our weekly shop has almost doubled in the past 3 years. And now that our council tax and housing benefit is being cut, I think more and more people will be growing their own.

One plus that my partner and myself see in growing our own is that we can grow things that aren't sold in the supermarkets or at the grocers. Another major plus is that we both enjoy gardening and it gets us out in the fresh air and working on the land.

Neither of us work unfortunately as my fiancé is disabled and I am his full time carer, so there is no way either of us can work, as he needs someone with him almost 24/7. So our time is spent down the allotment when the kids are at school unless it is raining.
We take the kids down with us sometimes on the weekends and get them involved as much as we can.

We are so into our allotment that we have even started our own little website.

We try and do everything as organically as we can and we have even put a few little projects and recipes on the site.
I try and update the galleries at least once a week if the weather has been good enough and also the blog.

I hope that this forum will not only help us with a few problems we might have, but also that we can help others when they need a question or 2 answered that we can help with.
