Default Sophie Grigson cookbook - "Vegetables"

I'd like to recommend this cookbook, it's excellent. A lot of cookbooks I looked at were full of fairly obscure ingredients and fancy prep meothds, not this one, it's right down-to-earth, easy recipes but really really tasty too. The best thing is, although it's a cookbook about veggies, and gives you lots of info about each one, it's not a vegetarian cookbook! Not that I have anything against veggie cooking, but OH has his own ideas so this one hit the spot for both of us.

Retails around £25, published by Collins.

Thanks for the recommendation BirdieWife. I'm always looking for new ways to cook vegetables. And thanks for the link Piglet, at that price I might go for it.

I've just looked at that book on thebookpeople web page. It says "published in a wonderfully organic textured cover". Can anybody tell me what that means ?

Hi
I've got this book but I don't use it half as much as Prue Leith's Vegetarian Cookbook, this is a great doorstopper of a book, brilliant recipes that seem to work very well, I bought it purely on recommendation and have not been disappointed.

Piglet, I'm sure they mean it's textured, I understood that bit. But what does "wonderfully organic textured cover" mean ? Any other suggestions ?

How do you petrify a cabbage? Threaten to pickle it?

To change the subject slightly - I use Rose Elliot's "A Foreign Flavour" a lot for vegetable dishes. I don't eat meat so it gives me shed-loads of inspiration on cooking veg. Don't know if it's still in print. My paperback copy (slightly foxed and very gravied!) was £2.95 in 1983.
I think I'd like to thumb through Sophie Grigson (in the nicest possible way!) before buying another book though

Thanks for the laugh Jennie. I think you've cracked it. That's obviously what they mean.
