  • Why me!

Why is it that when you have had a Cra**y six months at work and you finally get some leave............. you get ill.

Finished on Friday for a fortnight and got a cold as soon as I finished work!

Stocked up on paracetamol instead of a glass of red.

Your adrenalin level has dropped now that you're not working and are relaxing and your body is allowing itself to give in to the illness it would have fought had you still been working.

A couple of days rest, paracetamol and plenty of good grub should get you back to rights and able to enjoy the red wine.

    Hope you feel better quickly

Me too Herbie - as soon as I've got time off work I get ill. I agree with the adrenalin theory. It keeps you going while you have to work, but as soon as you have time off and relax a bit every bug in the world is waiting to get you. Hope you feel better soon.

At least if you're poorly now then you should be fine by Christmas.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I've woken up with a throat like raw razorblades (or something) and groggy eyes too. I knew I was coming down with it, because I've been sleeping 11-12 hours a night lately (when I don't get woken by 2am texts that is)

This always happens to me too! I have a few days off work before Christmas when I shall be working right through and have a horrible cold. Am drinking brandy so should feel better later on!

Drink lots of hot water with a wedge of lemon or lime and honey to taste, but at least a teaspoonful. If you're using Lemsip add it to this. When you go to bed drink one hot in bed (it'll make you sweat out the cold) and leave one to cool. If you wake in the night with a painful throat or tickly cough sip the cold drink, the honey will 'oil' and soothe your throat in a way that plain water can't.

herbie it may be worthwhile just checking with your employer what their policy is when you fall ill when you are on leave -technically you are not on annual leave at all but sick leave - you can't do both at the same time!! You may get your leave back!

Thank you for your kind messages, felt really rough yesterday so had a pj's day!!! Think I'm starting to break the back of it. To all those that are feeling unwell hope you feel better soon. xxxxx Always the way when I get time off. In terms of sick leave from work I never tend to have time off and when I go back we have a particulary difficult start to year by the employer implementing a new pay and grading system so time off after 4th Jan is a no no for me, as I will be representing in appeals so might as well get the bug now rather than then.
