Hello every one my names David and I saw that some one had alreay asked the question but I am looking at the possibility of using some of my land for allotments on the outskirts of Dublin and Ballbrigan and wanted to know would there be a demand and also whot would be the average price per 120square meter plot per annum. thank you

| Hi Mr Harries, welcome to the 'Vine ![]() I'm not in your country, so I wouldn't be able to use your allotments, but I just wanted to say that is a lovely idea and I'm sure there will be plenty of people who would love an allotment on your land. You could try getting in touch with your nearest council & asking if they have an allotments waiting list? Also, there is a thread in Allotment Finder about rents What's the most you would be prepared to pay for allotment rent?, also rent of your plots does it cost a lottie is about how much everyone's rent is. Hope that helps a bit?

I'd second getting onto Fingal, as I think they alreaddy have allotments out that direction which are pretty popular, so they should be able to give you advice, and maybe even direct people towards you if they have a waiting list (I suspect there is one). I know that Dun-Laoghaire Rathdown have over 150 on their waiting list, for 102 plots with not a huge amount of turnover this year I reckon. Pity your land isn't on the southside (and that is not meant to be a northside-southside comment in the "usual" sense!!).

Hi David, I have been looking for 2 years for an allotment, I live in Swords and would LOVE to rent an allotment from you, I have no idea what a reasonable rent would be, I know the Council rates are very cheap, but obviously that would be a little too much to expect! So talk to me, I am happy to discuss terms, you can mail me where I work if you are interested, my address is: (deleted by poster) Last edited by Pat1909; 05-06-2008 at 04:58 PM.

David:I think there is major interest out there, and many more would be interested if they knew there were allotments available in Dublin. I have only started looking into this recently myself, being a young person from the country living in Dublin without a garden. From what I have been finding out interest is growing and I reckon with all the new property in Dublin without gardens you are on to something. I myself have just joined the waiting list for South Dublin County Council and if you had land on the southside I would certainly be tapping you up ![]() Apparently Dublin City Council are compiling a list to see how many people are "interested" in allotments!!! Typical they wait until people are beating on their doors demanding then before getting the finger out ![]()

H Woodstock, i agree with you about the high level of interest there is in Dublin, there are more than a thousand people currently on waiting lists for 2 years or more, and I dont believe the authorities are adding new people to lists, so who knows how many interested people there really are, unfortunately the only people NOT showing any interest are those that are in a position to provide some assistance, and David seems to have gone away too, it's such a shame, and quite worrying in a time when Ireland seems to be losing it's ability to produce it's own food, mainly to the biggies like Tesco and so on, and even more depressing when we finally have some 'Green' representation in government, ah well, I'll keep trying. Anyone knowing anything or abe to help in our quest to grow our own, please please get in touch. Ta. ![]() ![]() ![]()
