  • Who makes what in the supermarkets etc?

Just a thought, I know that Walkers crisps make Asda's own make, the same pharmaceutical company who makes Ambre Solaire makes Malibu suntan lotion, all at a fraction of the price. The extra charge for these leading brands are for packaging surely? Any others out there? Yours views? Started this thread because I bought a cheap washing powder from local store (all they had) 99p for the standard pack and it's no different from what I've been using and costs a lot less!

I have been using soap nuts for a while, no difference to how clean the washing is and only works out about 3 p a load! And totally biodegradable too.

I used to work at the Weetabix Factory (In Accounts) and they made all the supermarket own brands. There was a different recipe for own brand bix and they were also a different weight.

What are these and where do you get them from? Now Stephen (stepson #1) has moved in, my washing has tripled and its going to cost a fortune other wise.

EDIT: have just googled them, they look brilliant. Going to get a sample and see how they work. If I like 'em that'll be me converted!

They are brill. You don't need any softener but there is no smell whatsoever to them which is a bit disconcerting when you are used to the super strong smell of washing! I use about 6 drops of essential oil on the little bag you put them in and the washing smells of this. Yum. And you can change the smell to suit your mood!
I have been using my small box for about 8 weeks and am only about a 6th down it. I use about 6 nuts and they do me about 3 loads. I still have to use stain remover for baby sick etc (nice) but the ecover one does the job well enough.

I now find it a bit overpowering when I smell people's washing powder on them... who says a clean smell has to be persil? lol I can even smell nextdoors washing from my garden, now that's got ot be softener overload!

McBride are a supplier of 'most' household wet/dry goods own label for cleaning etc.

They also were the first, apparently, to invent that soluble plastic-type washing capsule for machines!

Try these Ecozone Ecoballs® - the original Eco Balls we have been using them for 6 months, you wash at 30 and they are great they are good for 1000 cycles.

In my student days I had a holiday job in a cake factory. We made 'Exceedigly good' cakes, M&S and for a local bakery. Their own brand (Mr Kipling's exceedings) was dearer than the others (yes, even M&S) and M&S had theit own quality control people in each day. The cakes came down the production line and only when the M&S folks said it was good enough, we changed the wrapper and wrapped for them.

                    Hi
What you need is MoneySavingExpert.com - there are literally hundreds of threads about this in the old style forum.
