  • A whinge about tickets

I really wanted to take my OH to the Sports Personality of the Year evening, it is being held at the Liverpool Echo Arena this year, and they could seat 8,000. I got on the BBC's early warning email system and the Echo Arena's heads up email system, that gives you the change to buy tickets before they go on general realease.

So, nothing from the BBC but I did get an Echo announcement that they were going on sale at 9.00am this morning with a 4 tickets per person limit. I went on the phone at 8.55, the line was engaged so I rang non-stop until 10.00 - permanently engaged.

When I finally got through at just after 10 they had sold out! But (and this is really annoying), there were already tickets on the various ticket sale sites at £275 each (they cost £30 to buy).

So that's it - I missed out, some lucky people are making a quick profit, and I don't know what else I could have done. Oh and the website was permanently showing a 'due to the heavy traffic this isn't working' sign.

I know it's trivial and so many of you have so much more to complain about - but I am angry and want to shout at someone and you're all I've got.

You never know - keep your eye out on ebay ....

I bought concert tickets last month for £26 each when they had a face value of £32.50 each. 6th row too.

I told the guy at the Arena they were already on the ticket sites, he said that you had to prove that the tickets were sold to you, not to a third party (proof of identity?) and apparently they're doing the same for the MTV awards, and they'll only send out the tickets a week before, to make it more difficult for the touts - but, even if the touts don't get their money, I still don't get tickets, unless I want to gamble that the Echo's security doesn't work.

There are tickets on ebay at 99p tho, mind you - 6 days to go ...

Um, is the tea and cakes for me or you?

Oh - didn't think of the security thing. If the tickets are on 'legit' ticket sites, you can ask them about the security stipulations (or wing it on ebay - and risk disappointment by being turned away at the door)

You - however unless it is a particulary miserly tea pot, and a tiny cake, I figured that there'd be enough for me too.

I'm not too sure how the security thing will work, are they going to ask all 8,000 to bring their passports?!

On the cake front, there is another possiblity, I might be so cold and miserable, I eat it all myself and then need lots of tea

I had to sell some tickets on ebay once - I was supposed to go and see Green Day at Milton Keynes but my back had gone again at the time so couldn't go. I ent a tout guv.

We've had similar problems when trying to get tickets in the past - one time we were trying to get tickets for a Robbie Williams gig and we had three phones on constant redial for a similar period of time to yourself. We never got those tickets.

On a similar note, I've had my name on the "waiting" list for TopGear tickets for 5-6 years now. Still haven't had any. I'm now not even that keen on the programme anymore...

My name was on the same waiting list. I had an RX8 and the owners club tried to get on as a club, I don't even have the car anymore we waited so long.

What I found even stranger than the rush for these was how easy it was to get tickets for Strictly Come Dancing in January at the same venue.

Thanks for all the comments, the ones involving food helped, so I went to the butchers and bought liver (to go with sage mash), chicken (to be covered in black pepper for a slightly unusual but fragrant curry), and pheasant, for my next slow cooker experiment. So, winter's here then!

I can't decide which is best, growing food, cooking, eating, talking about it - no wonder I have weight issues.

Good grief, I've just hijakked (sp?) my own thread.

                      Now, about Brand and Ross.....

But if anyone reading this has tickets for Sports Personality, and doesn't want them ....

Ha! Now the BBC say that there might be another tranche of tickets going on sale later when they have sorted out the arena layout. Seems a little strange if they have already sold out ....

What really annoys me is the Corporate Ticket.
That's when big companies buy up all the tickets to give to their clients as freebies. Half the clients don't turn up, the other half are only there for the free beer. (I know, Mr Sheds gets a few Corps himself)
They should go to real fans

I went to see Robbie Williams in Copenhagen (special birthday present), and he noticed that one group of corporate guests in a box were watching TV. He got the spotlight and one of the cameras on them and got the whole thing transferred to the big screen behind him. They turned the TV off! At Queen last week there were batches of empty seats, presumeably they were corporate things as well.

they will have gone to coach firms (those who do ticket-and-travel deals) and the like. Competitions. You'll get radio stations giving the tickets away, etc. You could still get tickets, don't give up hope yet.
When we went to Singapore Grand Prix in October, it had been "sold out" for months, yet we managed to get tickets no problem. (corporate, as it happens)
