Default Whinge about political correctness!!!!!

How many people, like me, are pi...fed up with having to be 'pc' all the time? You should no longer call them 'Christmas Lights', they are to be known as 'Winter Lights'! I work in education, but I can't say 'blackboard', I've got to say, wait for it - 'chalkboard'! Oh, but apparently I CAN say 'whiteboard'! Perhaps from now on, we should not be known as mere gardeners, or allotmenteers but rather as Non Animal Product Food Producers!
Any body else got any weird and wonderful pc sayings from their area? I'd be interested to know. Take care all, and keep producing!

I work in HR/Personnel and we have just all had to go on a "Diversity Awareness" course...

I learned nothing new on it! We had to discuss what "diversity" meant to us and how we could be "inclusive" to every person regardless of ethnicity, culture, religion etc etc.

I can't understand why they put us on these courses, as for me, treating everyone the same regardless, is common sense...

But it's so we can be PC, and not offend anyone. Like you can't say someone is blind or deaf, they are visually or hearing impaired. We're not to call people disabled either, they are "differently-abled".

And most of the emails I've got say things about the "winter festivities" rather than Christmas... I know people of all sorts of different religions and cultures, and they all celebrate their owen version of "Christmas" (or Solstice, or Channukah etc) and none of them have ever been offended by someone saying Merry Christmas....

Argh....

agree totally! did you hear about some councils wanting to change the name of christmas? i mean really who does it offend exactly? and why? dont see any christians taking offence at ramadam or eid, cant see anyone wanting to change their names either.
how is diffrently abled less offensive than disabled? it means the same thing, no one consously thinks the part that says dis is negative.
next it will be the man with the hair coulor you can achieve by mixing green and red.
from a yellow headed female vegetable origin and animal origin food producing person.

The council in Blackburn once wanted to change it's name to Central Lancashire City so as not to ingite race relations!

I think we should start an 'Anti Political Correctness' movement. How about it?

Too Late Zeb, I've been the patron of that for a long time I was sent this today ..... It is a joke by the way
============

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit,*my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all.

May you have a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2007, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make Britain great, (not to imply that Britain is necessarily greater than any other country or is the only 'BRITAIN" in the western hemisphere), and without regard to the race, creed, colour, age, physical ability, religious faith, choice of computer platform, or se*ual orientation of the wishee.

By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms. This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/himself or others, and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher.

This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year, or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher.

Have a great time

We've had a health and safety at Christmas (sorry, the winter festival) one - is enough to make you stay in bed for the duration! Apparently we are all at risk of electrocution, fire, food poisoning, personal injury, stress related illness, liver damage, etc, etc, etc................

All this 'winterval' nonsense drives me nuts!

As a Jewish person I personally do not celebrate Xmas, but I do understand that living in a Christian country it might actually be likely for the population to celebrate this holiday, and *gasp* this might mean seeing the odd Xmas light display, trees in shops, big fat blokes in white beards wearing red suits shouting 'ho ho ho!' I have no problem with any of it.

And I think that most of my fellow minorities agree with me.

I object to that, I have never once shouted Ho Ho Ho

I Agree Marge what make a mockery of it is it is perfectly OK to celebrate other peoples festivals because it shows what a diverse country we are but we can't celebrate any of our own

Still none as blind etc....

Thanks for the laugh Nick, but seriously (!) the whole pc business is part of 'Them' trying to get us to be afraid of each other.

I believe that small acts of kindness/tolerence/understanding/forgiveness can undermine this c**p.
Join the Camaign for Human Contact, beat the bu**ers at their own game.
Try smiling at somone in the street today; Refuse to be afraid of children or strangers; don't buy the fear ethic.

Our 'government' is seeking to control us by creating fear; this pc stuff is all part of that, In 1639 John Clarke, said "He who seeks to terrify others is more in fear himself"
That seems to be what is happening today. let's beat it. Try a small act of kindness, it really works.
***
Sorry for the prostelysing, but I feel strongly on this one.

Madderbat

I 100%, totally and unequivocally agree! Because of intereference, people are becoming SO me - minded. One simple act of kindness, politeness or straight forward good manners is good on two fronts; it makes the other person realise that not all people are jerks, and it makes YOU feel good! I work (and have done for the last 7 years) with disaffected teenagers (pc again!!!) and the amount of correctness we are supposed to apply is, quite frankly, b******s! I treat these young people AS people. I give them the respect they deserve as human beings, I have been known to hug them on occassion and I frequently (in a joking way) insult them. The results are fantastic.
Stuff political correctness, lets just go back to being nice, kind but above all, tolerant human beings.

Rant over!
