  • What time is it?

Two teams of intrepid explorers are at diametrically opposite points on the equator. At exactly 6PM for one team (and therefore 6AM for the other) they both start heading for the North Pole at exactly the same speed. What time is it when they get there?

Don't the poles use GMT? So depending on how long it takes to get there, it'd be whatever time it is in Greenwich wouldn't it?

Apparently at the South Pole they use the same time zone as New Zealand, basically because most people who go there do so via NZ.

The arctic is an ocean and there is no permanent marker for the North Pole as it is covered in drifting sea ice.

It just strikes me as weird that when the 2 teams meet their watches would still be set 12 hours apart.

I'm pretty sure they use Central European Time.

Stop messing with my mind HotStuff! It would just be whatever time it is at the North Pole wouldn't it, they'd just have to reset their watches the same as you would when you get off the plane abroad wouldn't they?

But as both teams proceed directly North from their positions on the equator they are heading up lines of longitude and therefore they shouldn't need to adjust their watches.
