  • Warning - garden furniture con!!

    Hi all

Well i want to warn you all about a garden furniture business that doesnt come up with the goods, but takes your money!!

Wessex Teak - they are online and were on ebay!

Anyway, on 1st April, i won on ebay some lovely hardwood garden furniture and even though they said it would be anywhere between 28 day plus delivery, i have still not received them, after numerous emails etc and even phone calls (they are hard to get hold of) nothing has turned up, they are con artists!!!

I am ok though, as paid on my credit card (just in case) and credit card company are defo getting the money back, so went to B&Q today and got a lovely hardwood table, 6 chairs and parasol for £250, a real bargain as they have a great sale on.

So now had first barbie of the year and happy sitting at my new table in my very green garden.

A good end to a bad tale!!

I looked at that "bargain" wooden furniture, then remembered that wood is really unforgiving and uncomfortable to sit on.

Argos had a set for £89 - glass table, parasol, 2 loungers and 4 chairs, so we got that. It's all sitting in our tiny front room in boxes, waiting for our new house to go through.

          hi TS

I hope the move goes well for you, we moved last October and it was the most stressful thing i have done, with 3 kids a dog and a OH that didnt pack one thing, apart from his garage and precious motorbikes!!!! lol!

I was gonna get a glass one, but, we had one before and my son climbed on it (as he does everything) and one day it shattered, lucky he wasnt on it at the time, but with his aspergers, i cant risk it!!

I also checked that the wood didnt come from a rainforest, i dont like that on bit, so i was careful with what i bought!

            Wessex Teak warning

I have had the same experience with Wessex Teak. Goods ordered on ebay at the beginning of March 2008 failed to materialise. (Wessex Teak no longer trades on e-bay, I wonder why...) When my wife started to make enquiries she found them to be evasive at best; otherwise unhelpful, surly and dishonest.
After many unsuccessful attempts to secure delivery of our goods and wasted days off work waiting for promised deliveries that didn't turn up, we eventually cancelled the order & demanded a refund at the end of July. Five months after placing the order.
A month later and we have still not received a refund despite numerous phone calls & e-mails. I am now going to issue a county court claim in an attempt to get my money back.
If you are thinking of buying garden furniture my advice is DON'T BUY FROM WESSEX TEAK. In my opinion they are crooked.
If you are unfortunate enough to be in the same situation & being given the run-around call Andrew Smith on 01277 812128 ext. 106. I'm quite sure he won't help you but at least that will get you past reception.

I never buy anything off eBay that isn't paid through PayPal - their dispute/refund system is there to protect you.

Just thought i'd better say, I ordered a 3.5 metre table with 10 chairs, Cushions & umbrella and although they took over 3 months to arrive earlier this year, it was worth the wait. I'm sorry to hear that some people have been conned but I had no problems at all. I was sent emails confirming the delivery date & phone calls were always polite & courteous. I was obviously lucky

Are these pieces of garden furniture FSC certified then?

I never saw this thread, but we bought exactly the same as you Ageingted, and ours arrived without problem. We then ordered a bench to match.

Yeah, it was this one: Wessex Teak - Beautiful Teak Furniture

                            And this bench to match:

All bladdy sturdy stuff (weighs a tonne), and should last forever.

Bizarre that others have not been so fortunate.

Victims of their own success I daresay.

Just found it odd that a 5 or 6 month old thread would be revived by a new member on their first post Perhaps I'm just cynical!
