We have loads of rabbits around in the village-fortunately in the summer they have enough food on the fields so they don't visit the gardens.In the winter-that's another story.They munched my Zepherine and ate the remining primroses.Yes they are cute and fluffy.As long as they stay away from my garden.

I don't think you're the only one who has rabbit troubles Zeb, tis a lot harder to see them as 'cute' when they've trashed all you hard work... My dad's place has loads of them, so he only grows stuff they don't eat now. They still manage to damage his new trees though

I think if you have a search, maybe in Weeds, Pests & Diseases, there'll be some posts about rabbit proof fencing, but I don't think it's a cheap option... Maybe a friend with a lurcher or a ferret?!

Wabbits are lovely, they are the most gorgeous succulent little creatures. They makes an excellent pie.

so sorry to hear of all your trouble with rabbits. I think fencing is the only answer. we have been over the subject about these houdinis and short of a gun fencing and keeping a good eye on it with regular fence checks as they can get though the smallest hole. use soot around the edge and anything like oil (old engine oil is good) in your area there must be someone willing to shoot for you a previous thread covered this subject and it is very difficult and needs almost full time attention. good luck keep going as you can get the upper hand it just takes a long time and you will find the little houdinis will it seems rise to challenge your every move. good luck.

Got to agree with Mikey...they're great in a pie!

...also...until they manage to bypass our netting at the lottie,they seem to be an easier target for the "supposed" fox at our site than our chooks...so got to like them for that too!

I've used a mixture of methods to contol the rabbit population, including guns and ferrets. However, the two currently proving effective are my dog Charlie, who has developed a real taste for rabbit recently and has become quite adept at catching them, and I also noticed last week that the dreaded "mixi" is back - not quite as devastating as it once was, but it slows them enough to make catching them a lot easier.
