  • using Search button - properly

A lot of peeps are posting new threads on say, GARLIC, when there are loads of garlic posts already active. It happens with Parsnips, and will happen again with potatoes.

    to Search:
If you use your Search button, click on Advanced Search, type in your keyword (garlic), then click Search Titles Only (instead of Search Entire Posts which is less selective and will give you 1000s more replies)

Of course, it does rely on people titling & spelling their threads correctly ...

It is a really useful function, because you always pick up something new or long-forgotten by looking at old threads from wise people who have since left the Grapevine.

Thanks for that Two Sheds, I wondered if there was a way to narrow it to just the titles of the threads but never had the time to investigate further.

Agree on the thread titles too - though I am probably guilty of obscure titles to my threads

Since the forum has been running for a few years now and nigh on every imaginable concoction of gardening queries has been asked, the only problem with people using the search button is that the forum would die a death if everyone did it!
I personally hate trolling through previous threads when it is just as easy to post a query/comment which is usually seasonal and pertinent to any new users using the forum, I hope!

Isn't it equally annoying to have half a dozen threads running that are asking the same question though?

Does everyone check their "new posts" before posting a new thread? If they did, or they checked the relevant forum, they would probably find an appropriate thread to join in on instead of creating a whole new one.

you're having a bumping good time here TS

I totally agree with this, it is much better to Search first and then ask, I have found some wonderful gems in the bowels (!) by searching first.

So Nooobs, Search first but don't be afraid to ask if you don't see what you are looking for
