Default tonight: Jamie Oliver - Eat to Save Your Life

I know that we on the Vine are mostly converted to eating good fresh organic food, but even so, I think this programme is even more important than his chicken one. It shows a selection of ordinary people on ordinary diets, and demonstrates the effects of eating too much, and eating poor food. Check out the vegetarian who doesn't eat vegetables

Don't be put off by the scary Autopsy guy...there's only one dissection, right at the end of the prog, but its not gory - no blood. Just a truly fascinating and repellant look at what junk food does to your body.

highly recommended. 10.55pm Channel 4 tonight.

Sounds very interesting indeed. What on earth does the veggie eat if not vegetables?

Pity it is on so late, but if I am having one of my sleepless nights I might catch it.

Sounds good...............but I wonder why so late in the evening? especially when a lot of people have to go to work early on Monday morning!

It's a repeat - it was on 10pm Wed the first time. I think the late slot is because of the slightly gruesome content (a dead body)

It was the cheese sandwich syndrome - I stayed up to watch it first time round. Fascinating!

I saw Gunter von Hagens exhibition in London - it was brilliant, beautiful, not at all gory. There was a lot of criticism for showing real people sliced up, esp the pregnant woman, but I believe it is totally educational - to see your insides like that, for real and not in a text book, is superb.
though he should lose the hat

and I thought I had a poor diet before I met my husband.

Do some people really survive on take-aways and fast food? How to people afford it?

I watched it last week too, mostly for Gunter because I think he's brilliant. I've always found the human body fascinating.
Himself has noticed its on tonight and is pretty keen to see it.

I watched it first time round a week or so ago - the late timing is down to the dead body I reckon, though its not as gruesome as you might think.

I cant believe what some people eat regularly - I mean, I love an indian takeaway now and then, but no veg ever or freshly cooked food???

Not watched it yet but recorded it when it was on last week - I usually find myself getting wound up watching things like that as it seems so obvious but suppose I'm fortunate that my mum taught me about diet and I enjoy cooking. Eat take aways about once every couple of months, sometimes not even that often and don't really do biscuits etc as I'm not that fussed on them. Will watch it when I have the chance but unfortuantely up to my ears in decorating at the mo - boo!

I saw it last week and was fascinated by these people and what they eat. To be fair the 'veggie' did say he was a 'bad veggie' and should describe himself more as a person who doesn't eat meat!
Thought it was very interesting that you could gain several stone over a few short years just by consuming 300 cals a day over the recommendation: for some, that's only a snack or two. Made me think twice about snacking - not that I'm that bad, but still.
I think I'm thinking of the right program, cos there was the other one with Jane Moore or whatever her name is, that hilighted what people eat when they eat out: the callorific content of some of those dishes was astounding. And then you think back to those people who live on dining out and eating take aways. Mad!

It's scary how the weight creeps on - just 2 HobNobs a day over your recommended daily calorie allowance would make you put on half a stone in a year (thereabouts).

We all forget about balance sometimes - we have a biscuit, and think well I've done it now, might as well finish the whole pack. Before you know it, you've gained a dress size, it makes you miserable and so you binge to cheer yourself up. I think our brains must be wired up wrongly when it comes to food and drink.

OH has vowed to try to lose weight again. He usually tries for 2 days and gives up when he doesn't lose four stone overnight. Hopefully this programme will boost his willpower a bit ... I've signed him up for swimming in the evenings, and filled the fridge with healthy snacks (sardines, feta, apples, grapes, celery). I think the Sausage Detox will be tough.
