  • Three Wishes

I'm not usually keen on re-reading books (novels, not gardening books), but from time to time I do dig out an old favourite. Last night it was 'The Shipping News' by Annie Proulx. I first read it ten or twelve years ago and I'd forgotten one of the character's thoughts 'A man can be happy if he has a pig, a punt and a potato patch'. Brilliant, though I'm not so sure about the pig and the punt. For me it would be a dog, an allotment and a dozen chickens, though I just can't come up with a catchy sentence to describe it well. The best I've managed so far is a pooch, a plot and a...... At this point it falls apart.
So any better ideas? And what three simple things make other grapes happy?
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

While lots of material things feel important to me, I've just got to be boring and say Love, Laughs and Life

Just being with my little family would definately be no. 1, I'll give the other two some thought; but I agree The Shipping News is a beautiful book - it improved on rereading for me, unlike many.
