| whilst doing my morning ablutions, a thought came to mind and maybe someone knows the answer what is the evolutionary benefit of body hair, particulary as men get older the disproportionate amount of body hair sprouting from every available location, why do we need two inch long eyebrows? and as for nostril/ear hair, why??? why do we suddenly need this excess of hair when we reach middle age, what benefit do we get that we didn't need as adolescents? ![]() ![]() ![]()

| Ladies lose oestrogen after menopause - a corresponding increase in testosterone causes excessive facial hair growth (while head hair gets thinner; how unfair is that?). I'd rather have it on my chin than coming out my ears and nostrils though.

| Everyone is born with a certain ammount of hair that must be grown out of the body in a lifetime! As the scalp loses it's ability to produce hair, then the body assigns other areas to dispose of the 'hair reservoir'. Be thankful you're not a Hobbit!

| He,he. I've always been a Hobbit! I've made my daughter promise to extract the odd facial hairs when I become too old to do it for myself. I went to visit my mum last week (she's had senile dementia for over 15 years, 15 years is when it became obvious). She's looked the same for most of that time, give or take a stone or two. She is now, very recently, going bald. She also seems to be developing a beard. She's 86. I'm now at the age when my mum's SD started. I've been so worried that it might be hereditary. No-one else in our family has ever suffered from it but you never know. I know that she would hate the hairs, but plucking them would cause her too much stress. So we leave them.

| You lot are disgusting, cant think of anyhting worse than old mans nasal hair and ear hair. Mind you my Nan use to look at me and stick here chin out and wave it about, and when she couldnt do it herself she use to get grandads electric razor out whilst watching her soaps and make me shave her chin. Nice things grandaughters have to do |

One thing I really don't miss since she passed away last October ![]() My OH has trichotomania (obsessive hair pulling) mainly with his eyebrows, but also the hairs on his fingers and, rather disgustingly, his nose hair - spends most of his time looking like Bob Geldof's character in Pink Floyd's The Wall because of his eyebrows! The nose thing is just really funny though because it makes him sneeze like no one's business and sneezes just crack me up for some reason
