  • Is there such thing as a houseproud gardener?

As I work myself up into a panic in the week leading up to another visit from my very houseproud mother I wondered if there was such a thing as a houseproud gardener!

    LOL

On the TV this week [ he made me watch open gardens] someone said that veg gardeners didn't usually care about the aesthetic just about the veg and my OH looked straight at me. He keeps saying he was joking but I'm not so sure.

Not in this house! I'm not even garden proud. I just genetically cannot do 'neat' - but I get plenty of veg and I have fun with the indoor hobbies in my house. No-one ever lay on her death bed and said 'I wish I'd done more housework.'

I hate house work BUT I hate the house being in a mess so I do it as regularly as poss so it doesn't take too long and I have more time at the plot. Having said that things have kinda slid over the summer hols so once the kids go back to school next thurs the house is gonna get it, and the lottie!!

I do housework when the state of the house annoys me enough. It makes me very grumpy though.

The one thing I HATE HATE HATE with a passion is the ironing!
I put it off till the pile is nearly as big as me and then I grumble all the way through it.
My OH boasts that he finds it relaxing, how the hell would he know when he never does it?!
            Sigh.
I have a Pisa size tower waiting for me this morning can you tell?
Can feel myself getting grumpy already.....

I also have a big big big pile of ironing, at the mo its sitting in our bedroom so I see it every night, after tomorrow when daughters friend goes home i can put it back in the spare room out of sight out of mind !!! The house is tidy at the moment mostly because myself and my 12 yr old daughter had a big tidy up as she hates the state it gets in. When her friends are coming she puts everything away and then I cant find anything and bits turn up in the wierdest of places.
The house also needs decorating my OH never finishes a job and as my BIL has retired I am going to ask him to come and help me as I know he is getting under my sister's feet.
My OH does however Irons his own shirts as I refuse to ( ok i do them sometimes ).

i dont do ironing at all, always buy stuff that doesn't need it ...... if its nice i put all the washing on the line, then when dry anything likely to need ironing, put in the dryer for 10 mins on hot, then hang it up, very little creasing left.

I don't see the point in ironing a huge pile, that is going to get put in a drawer, son does his own ironing as and when he needs stuff.

i have a when the ashtray is full use the floor approach to housework, ie when i've broken my toe on something 3 times, i'll get round to moving it

the dishwashers great, i can now hide the dirty pots till it's full,

                    yup i'm a messy cow

Phew, I'm not the only one that clicked "my cleaner does it".

I generally don't mind cleaning (some people say it's because I'm a Virgo?), and I actually quite like ironing - pretty much always done with my iPod plugged into my ears.

I quite like cleaning the kitchen too - there's a certain satisfaction about shiny surfaces. In fact, I used to quite like polishing tarnished silver/chrome as a kid. Used to take great pride in Autosol/Brasso-ing the spokes of my various bikes, and polishing my silver piggy bank.

It's not been the same after therapy.

It seems to be the garden that causes most of my housework ... I keep trekking grass clippings, leaves & compost into the house.

Apart from Mr Sheds leaving his stuff where it falls, the house is okay. I don't mind my OWN mess

I know it's a male point of view here, but I voted for "something that can be done after the gardening" and it was the only vote. Maybe I should change my way of thinking.

What were the Poll questions again? lol
                              I love growing tomatoes.
