    Technical Blogger help for embedding a pic into a blog

    Can any of you techie types help me?

    Looking at the satelite image of the Hill on google earth (or MSN maps), I thought that it would make a good picture to put into a blog entry.

    What I wanted to happen was to right click on the image, Save As (name it as a jpg file) then attach in in blogger in the same way as I would a picture.

    This doesn't work (there isn't any sort of Save As option when you're looking at the satelite map in google) BUT there is an option to embed or link. Well, I don't want the map as a link, I want to see it as a picture in the blog, and the 'embed' option seems to be for if you want to add the whole page as a feature in the bar at the side of the blog.

    I've arsed about with it for an hour or so and can't spot how to do what I want although I'm sure that it can be done! What have I overlooked?

      Don't know about embedding, will be interested to find out, but can you take a 'screen-shot' with map image in it?

          Hon.

          Do you really want anyone on here to be able to link to your plot, and plug the location straight into their sat nav?

            No, you're right - I just want to post up what I see on google as a 'snapshot' and not as a link - that's why I want to save the image as a jpg.

            Clever Bilbo has sorted me out - here's what I wanted to be able to achieve.

                  You're right, SBP - ctrl-alt-print screen will copy the image onto the clipboard for pasting into your photo package of choice for cropping and saving as a jpg.

                  Gosh - that made me sound clever (thank you, Bilbo!)

                      OK, here's my email to Hazel in case it helps anyone else:

                      OK, here's how I would do it:

                      Get the Google earth/maps photo you want on your screen, move the cursor out of the way <g>. Press "Control, Shift, Print Screen" to put the contents of your screen into Clipboard.

                      Go to whatever program you use for editing pictures (I use Adobe Photoshop).

                      Do whatever you have to do in your editing program to get the Clipboard contents into a new page - for Adobe it is "File, New, Image From Clipboard".

                      Then crop away all the extraneous stuff like Status & header bars from your browser, and so on. THEN save the image as a JPG wherever you normally keep pictures. Then you should be able to upload it to your blog just like you do any other piccy.

                      BTW, something I forgot to mention to Hazel and ought to point out is the little issue of Copyright . . . won't drone on about it here, most of the Quilting forums I read have regular rants about it but legally, you cannot use an image belonging to someone else without their permission - there, that's that done and over with!

                        Ah - hadn't thought of that.

                        Do you think that I should say where the image is from, or not use the pic (will it get my blog closed down? ), or doesn't anyone give a fig anyway?

                          Two other ways of doing it.

                          MS office Onenote has a clip feature which captures a screen image of the web.

                          Use Clipmarks, an add-on for Firefox.

                            Vista also has a thing called 'Snipping Tool' or something like that which will do the same thing. Soz can't check how/where because I'm on XP at the mo
