My heart goes out to you Suzie - truly. Doubt there's anything I can do/say to make you feel any better, just hope it all works out for you both - truly I do.

You know where we are if you need us.

Sorry to hear that Piskie. I know this might sound harsh at the moment, but you will actually in an odd way feel better afterwards for having the strength to do the right thing.

Many, many hugs to you all from us lot.

Sorry to hear that Piskie, it's a difficult decision but if you've got to do it you've got to do it, he's probably had a very happy life with you. Don't take any notice of anyone who doesn't understand why you're crying over a cat, it's heartbreaking & will hurt whatever you do but you'll get through it. Give Charlie a hug from me.

Horrid day for you Piskie - hope you feel a little better as soon as you can.

If it helps (and it won't!) I lost my cat, Sprockett, last year and had to come into work the following day. I was OK until the CEO asked me how I was doing at which stage I disolved into tears. He was mortified, hustled me into a side room and asked what the problem was. I explained about Sprockett and he SO didn't get why I could be so upset about 'just' a cat.

Trying to empathise, he ended up having to say that he had a budgie when he was young and had been a little fed up when it went the way of all small birds.

Some folk understand, some don't. I'd had Sprockett for 15 years (he was born in my wardrobe) and he was my family! I wonder what'd happen if you showed the same lack of compassion for someone who'd lost their 15 year old child...

Dear Charlie.Having been there, done that several times I know that awful feeling of dread and "Am I doing the right thing". Once it's over, with the sadness comes relief, harsh as that may sound. Charlie will be free from old age and sickness and pain that he may not have complained about.
Thinking of you.

Ah bless!
So sorry to read your news, my thoughts are with you! Big big Hugs to you, am crying with you!

We have to do what is right for our animals though ! They can not talk to us in words but if we observe their body language and get to know our animals well enough, we know when they have had enough! As a crazy cat woman with 5 cats of my own at the moment and having grown up with cats around me all of my life. I have been in your shoes several times over the years, I find however it never gets any easier!

The last cat I had to have put to sleep was my Mogsey. That was 5 years ago now, I still miss him though! He was an abandoned young cat that by chance found me and chose to live with me! At first My OH said no I could not keep him but Mogsey had other plans and ended up my constant companion for 20 years! He would follow me everywhere, even walked the kids to school with me in the mornings! He would still be sitting on the edge of the housing estate where I live, waiting for me to get home from my part time morning job! What a telling off he would give me for leaving him all morning. In the end he was old and ill so I did what I had to for him! I do know exactly how you are feeling now!

I am sure you will make the right choice for Charlie.
If you did not love him you would not have put your message on here! You are just doing what all us animal lovers do, making sure you do the right thing by your companion!

Much sympathy from the crazy cat woman!
