excellent! I wonder how they got in there - and how did they get out? Thanks for making me smile.

I didn't see him get in, but I saw him squeeze out, I am convinced that squirrels, like some cats, have liquid skeletons

There's no such thing as squirrel proof. It may take them a few days to crack it - but they do.
Very nice place your neighbour has.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

Shame you didn't have a nice .22 to hand. Sorry, very anti-grey squirrel because I am fortunate to live in an area where we still have native English Reds.

I don't like the greys either, and even if they were not egg thieves, and also a threat to our lovely reds, their sheer breeding success would make it necessary to thin out the numbers quite a lot!
There is not a natural wild predator that can hnt them effectively, so human kind has to keep numbers in check instead.

We once had a stunned looking starling trapped upside down in the fat-ball holder. He'd managed to get the lid off and poked his head down inside and fell! I got him out by destroying the fat-ball holder with wire cutters! Poor little thing. Good job we were't away for a week.
