  • It spods please

I am being treated (by myself I might add) to a new pc for Christmas. I would like a micro pc as the case ideally will sit on a shelf and not be too visual.

What do you think of this puppy?

What do you want to use it for?

Why not get a lappie, Dell Studio ones are nice - I've got a tangerine coloured one - I don't know what it does but its a lovely colour!

i have a laptop, apart from being more expensive for the same specs, i really wish i'd got a desktop.

looks good specs to me, and a pretty decent price too

Madmax here - Aranthos, who has a guru like insight into these matters says it is "Pretty good, although it is not a 9.6Ghz CPU. They have taken 2.4Ghz clock speed and multiplied by 4 because it is a quad core. In most cases it will be only using 1 or 2 cores. It will perform similarly to a 2.4 or 3.6Ghzish processor. The video is not high performance by any means, fine for web browsing, videos and things".

Where he gains this depth of knowledge from heaven only knows... Madmax says look at some of the Dell machines, Dell Studio Hybrid Desktop Details

Only an Intel graphics card though.

It looks good to me as well .
One word of caution big hard drives can and do go BANG. I would advise one of two options -
1- buy an external Hard Drive and regularly back all important info up to it(but we all do that anyway - don't we ? don't we?) That way if it goes bang all your important info is backed up .
2- get an expert to install another small hard drive and use it for installing Windows to and nothing else. Put everything else on the other drive - then if it goes bang you just need a small drive and a copy of windows or a bigger drive and time to reinstall all your programmes.

Another tip use photobucket or picassa to back up all your pics .Set up a private account for personal pictures then if it all breaks when you get back up and running your pictures are all still there.

I learnt all these lessons the hard way a few weeks ago.
There comes a point in your life when you realize who matters, who never did, who won't anymore and who always will. Don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it in your future.

              looks nice

dont like sata drives cos the connections are damned fragile.( ok for you if you are not considering swapping them out)
as a micro box you had best hope you dont need to bung a new hardrive in cos it may not fit, but all in all, its not a bad box. nice specs.

i just wouldn't, i prefer standard sized towers so i can add bits.

i'd rather have this than a laptop though so if you fancy it, go for it

one thing i do agree with is the above, big hard drives go bang, and some OS wont read them, better to have several no bigger than 120gb, there have been problems with the os only reading the first 120gb and ignoring the rest. then you have to start playing the partition game.

I know next to chuff all about pc specs and the workings, but I like you wanted something small scale due to lack of room, so a few years ago bought a Shuttle PC (about half the size of a standard "tower"). Does the trick.

That one looks even smaller than mine though, so good stuff from a purely asthetic point of view.

Sounds interesting, but what are you going to use it for and what are you going to hook it up to in terms of sound & vision? Does it include an operating system?

my last PC was a Dell mini baby thing, it isn't good as the fan appears to be on more than its off and it sounds like it could blow at any time - hence me moving back to a biggy

I know nothing about all this stuff.
                          I've got a Dell laptop - WiFi.
It does everything I want it to do. Got rid of my desk top.
