Default Something Scary Just Happened ....

I was just in the potting shed getiing seeds ready .... having a tidy round ... you know with the radio on .... singing along .... when it happened like a bolt out of the blue .... the songs I was listening too were 20 something years old and instead of listening to them in my car cassette player on full volume so the speakers distorted on the way to the pub for Sunday liquid lunch .... I was in my shed with the music so low I could hear myself sing enjoying doing things that once thought boring and pointless .... I have officialy turned in to my MUM .... lol it's not a bad thing i'm happy and have a wonderful family but today I have realised that I am middle aged

Please tell me it's not only me who this has happened to and I will recover from the shock of it all .... o well back to the garden lol

I have officialy turned in to my MUM

I realised the same thing last week when I rescued this months Readers Digest from a bin at work that some thoughtless youngster had thrown away.

I'm seriously traumatised this morning because I've just heard that my friend who is younger than me has become a Grandma I thought I was about 25 but perhaps I'm really an old crock after all!

I'm definitely turning into my mum, I hear myself saying something at least once a day and think; eek! It's truly scary as up until recently my mum and I have been so different I seriously thought (hoped? ) that there'd been a mix-up at the hospital and that my real mum was an outdoor loving, animal friendly, fun kinda gal. I actually felt sorry for her as she's obviously been stuck with a seriously boring daughter for the past forty odd years, but now there's no denying it, I am my mum's natural daughter. Now I just have to watch for the warning signs - like running away from ALL wildlife (she's even scared of butterflies) and watching three different weather forecasts until I find one to my liking (ie, bad, so I don't have to go out) I've left instructions so that if I can't control it I am to be shot.

I think I'd quite like to be my Mum. She still loves gardening at 83, although she's a bit unsteady now. Last week she was explaining to me, quite seriously, that she thought she probably could manage to dig the garden if only it would stop raining. She could have her spider walking stick with her, push the fork in with her good leg, then steady herself with the stick as she turned the earth over. She manages to weed, has a conservatory full of seedlings and cuttings, and can manage to plant stuff out, if my brother lets her 'escape'.

Listening to her, I realised I had put very similar arguements to my OH about how I thought I could still dig the garden despite a broken ankle that has refused to heal properly even after 3 years.

We are both determined to keep going, even if other people think we should just retire to a comfy armchair and accept we are past it! I haven't even reached my half century yet, so if Mum and Gran are anything to go by, I might be lucky enough to get a good few years gardening yet.

Hi

Sounds like me Lol and I can not say I am near middle age.

I was in the greenhouse the other day, with my wind up radio, listening to classic FM and getting upset that I was missing the music because I had not wound it up enough.

I was out with hubby the other day looking for a nursey when he said does this makes us old driving around looking for a garden centre.

Not quite a MUM moment but scary just the same!
working on my plot when nice newbie plot holder came up to ask me some veg questions.
After he had left I thought - goodness girl you sound like some 'older' veg growing bloke thats been doing it for years..... I am not a bloke, but when I counted up the years of growing veg it came to over 30! I almost fell over......shock horror when did all those years sneak up on me!

There are lots of things I refuse to become like my mum in - but I am getting more and more into home baking, making stock from meat bones (and trying to always have at least 1 portion in the freezer), growing my own (well, mum does herbs, dad was the veggie man before work got too manic!), and making my own too (don't use the sewing machine that much, but it has seen action, current works are all on knitting needles).

I have reached a point though, where now that I have my own car, I can drive around listening to my rock and metal music up loud, with the bass on, singing away and disturbing no one!!
