  • Snow Watch...BBC Two special to investigate impact of UK's big freeze on wildlife

BBC Two special to investigate impact of UK's big freeze on wildlife.

Snow Watch is on BBC Two at 8.00pm on Wednesday 13 January 2010.

    Taken from Site.....

As the whole of the British Isles faces up to what is now the coldest and "whitest" winter for decades, our wildlife is forced to endure huge challenges.

As we struggle to cope, how does nature survive and adapt? The Springwatch/Autumnwatch team and friends have been out investigating what the big freeze really means for our wild animals.

Snow Watch, a specially-commissioned winter wildlife special, will report from wildlife hotspots around the UK, discussing who are the winners and losers, and offering advice on what we can do to help in our own gardens.

Tim Scoones, Executive Producer, says: "We are delighted to be able to report on what could be one of the most difficult periods our native wildlife has faced in years.

"We have fascinating stories pouring in from around the country about how our wildlife is trying to cope, and how wildlife enthusiasts are doing their best to help."

Join Chris Packham, Kate Humble, Simon King and all the team for up-to-the minute reports, insight and analysis.

Viewers can contact the team with their own wildlife stories, photos or videos from the big freeze through the website, bbc.co.uk/autumnwatch.

I've just been out to take some photos; this looks like a road but is the canal....you can see the duckprints as they are wandering up and down the ice.

It's been frozen now for 3 weeks.

Thanks for bumping the thread, now I just need to find the remote control (the grandchildren visited this afternoon and the TV is stuck on C-Beebies). The remote is probably in the toybox.

It's on now, and very interesting too.

Amazing how fast they have put it together.

(btw 20.13 not as timed above)

Don't need to break the ice on ponds - now that's interesting.

Now I know why I have so many fieldfares - wow. And a fox led me home tonight on my very urban street - at about 6.30 pm. Wish I had put some nesting boxes up as well as feeding stations.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Another great programme with some great animal/bird shots. And I almost missed it I love Springwatch and Autumnwatch, so was glad they did this extra programme. And Simon King demontrating how a hare moves.........classic!

Didn't see the programme but i know that up here the wildfowl (in fact every species of game bird bar pheasants) have been given a two week break from being shot at due to the weather being so severe.

That surprised me as well, I've been standing a pan of boiling water on our pond every morning to keep a hole free of ice.
