  • The sh** fairy has been busy again.

Not in our house (I am glad to be able to say) but it's enough to make you count your blessings.

Today we met a lady who, after returning unharmed from the Falklands (among other dangerous places), fell on the staircase in her own home, spent 10 months in the spinal injuries unit, and can now JUST ABOUT walk, carefully, slowly and with the aid of a stick or one of those folding wheel thingies. She is determinedly optimistic (keeps saying how lucky she is) but she is so obviously in pain, and struggling!

Our next door neighbour - well in her 70s, fell down the stairs before Christmas - she came down in the middle of the night because she'd left the outside Christmas lights on. She is only just out of hospital last week, still having to walk with a frame. Massive bruising along the spine. I think stairs are really dangerous. If the were newly invented, health and safety wouldn't let us use them!

My OH fell down the stairs by us carrying our Daughter who was 18 months at the time, She fell to protect little un and badly broke her ankle. After 8 weeks in plaster, the 1st day off, my little darling was so happy mommy was feeling better, jumped on her landing on the newly recovered ankle and guess what....she broke it again. Poor OH ended up back in plaster for a further 8 weeks!

Never test the depth of the water with both feet

Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.

She must have been at SDH? Where I work. We have a fantastic spinal unit.

Imagination is everything, it is a preview of what is to become.

She didn't say where, but it seems likely you are right. She commented on how many spinal injury patients were there as the result of a fall in the home that you would think was trivial.......
