scoulded myself today with the walpaper stripper! luckily Im a first aider, I sat with my arm under cold running water for about 15 minuets, feels better now but I was a bit worried at one point as couldnt feel the pain even though the skin was verry red, bob bless him wanted to rush me to emergency but I'm much better now, now its just painfull and sore.

oh well, will have to be more carefull tomorrow.
thouroly misrable not least because I didnt get to finish what I started.

I should no better than to suggest something, but I do watch far to many medical dramas, doesn't cling film help stop the sensation of burning. Obviously as a first aider you will no better than me, hope you are feeling better tomorrow,i'm assuming there is still some more to do?
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

There is less chance of scalding yourself if you let the paper drop on the floor rather than fold it over your arm, get distracted, look down, see paper ,steam it, result burnt arm

cling film is to stop the skin shedding from a 3rd degree burn, I had to deal with a particularly bad one of those on the ships, rules are as follows:

1st degree burn= lots of pain imediatly, cold running water for min 10 mins
2nd degree burn= no pain red swollen skin, cold running water for at least 20 mins
3rd degree burn= no pain, skin loose and likly to go down the sink, wrap in cling film and place under cold running water for at least 30 mins while you wait for ambulance.

luckily Its not a second degree burn as sensation has returned but I did have a worried 10 mins or so as there was no pain.

As I always say the telly is a very dangerous thing, and I thought you'd know better. How did you manage to steam your arm instead of the wall?

well I was steaming the celing and for some reason the steam had condensed in to very hot water and when I lifted it off it just went down my arm and hand.
Bob is the best hubbie ever and so I would never even dream of taking advantage, and anyway, hes putting my kitchen sink in tomorrow so I have to get on with the steaming or it will be forever till I have a kitchen. (its been 3 years already!)

I love horror movies- anything with blood and guts! But show me real wounds and blood and I feel sick and faint! I can't deal with the kids if they trip up and bleed- I can only cuddle them and have a cry together because i can't look at their raw flesh. Silly hey??

I'm so sorry to hear you get burnt, next time leave the decorating to DH and do so safe gardening instead.

Tip for steaming ceilings - don't hold the steaming plate right up against the surface. Hold it at an angle so the steam can escape - less chance of condensation occuring. It will take longer for the steam to penetrate but you're less likely to scald yourself.

Oohh, Yo, bet its painful now hon? How is it healing? I burnt my chest when my scarf caught fire over the cooker (I know, stoopid Moggs!) and at the hospital they covered me in clingfilm for ages - I was worried about what would happen when they took it off again, but all was fine (mind you I had just had morphine so prob didnt care haha!).

Seriously hon, hope it isnt too painful and you're soon back to the decorating - but safely this time!
Life may not be the party we hoped for but since we're here we might as well dance

I hope you are feeling better soon. Wallpaper strippers can be dodgy bits of equipment, and you never know what the wallpaper is hiding either! In my previous house I was stripping off the wallpaper, using a metal scraper to loosen it, and got quite a nasty electric shock. The people before us had obviously drilled a hole in the wall, and hit the electric cable. Instead of getting it fixed, or at least filling the hole in, they just papered over the top of it. Steam from the wallpaper stripper + metal scraper = electric shock, enough to make me fall off the ladder! My son, aged 4 at the time, ran next door for our neighbour, yelling about blue fire coming out the wall and hitting mum! We had to get an electrician in, long story, expensive!
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!
