  • School vs Shopping

On Fri I have to go and pick up Mr T from the airport. It is almost 2hrs away, add Friday traffic. The offspring finish school at 4.45pm so I can be at the airport by 7.30pm when he arrives.

BUT, there is an Ikea across the road from the airport...................

Would it make me a terrible mother/human being if I pulled the sprogs out of school an hour or so early in order to pick up vital supplies (meatballs, mustard, fabric and other stuff that I haven't yet seen, but know I can't live without).
    Tx

No, it's a life enhancing experience that the school will fully endorse

Marvellous, 3/3, a ringing endorsement for the slack mother.

I'm off the Ikea on Friday tralalala.

(I could take them out at lunch - rather than messing up the teacher's afternoon.....)

see now i'm an evil mother ....... i'd leave em at school, and get someone else to pick em up ........ then you can get more biccies and stuff in the car

mind you, i live just round the corner from ikea, so it's not exactly a day out any more lol.

Dilema here headteacher who loves ikea....is there anyone who can collect the kids from school then they can go for tea and play, could they have a sleep over? kids love that, whilst you indulge and get your ikea fix before picking up your dearly beloved, that way you get stress free shopping, they don't miss school and also they don't have to go to ikea!! and you and hubbie get some time together before you go home. sorted.

The problem with the 'someone else' looking after them is that there are three of the little darlings, we wouldn't be back before 9.30 and I'll be damned if I'm going to waste a favour of that magnitude on a shopping trip..... I'd rather wait until Mr T's back is better and do something Really fun!

Anyway, we live in such a rural backwater that the children are genuinely excited at the prospect. Cutting school early it is then.

I think school is a waste of time on friday afternoons anyway - the kids never listen. Ikea will be much more fun and it could be educational - count the plates etc......

My Mum was always doing this when I was at school. I remember once that she had to wait for Family Allowance to come through, so it was backdated a month. We both pulled sickies and went for a day out in Morecambe. Very tut tut stuff, but I still got two degrees. Go for it!
