Recycling turf??

    Recycling turf??

    Does anyone know if you can dispose of turf at a local recycling center???
    It isnt in very good condition and its more soil and bits of dead grass than what you would buy to re-surface your garden

    Haven't I seen something like using it to smother areas where weeds are prevalent? You simply cut to fit the area and use it 'grass' side down.

    Have no clue where I saw/read it but it makes a certain amount of sense.

        Yeah i read that but i haven't got the room to leave it for 12 months to break down, so ive got a lovely pile of sods of earth at the moment!

            Well, I'd put it on freecycle first - someone with a lottie might want it - rather than get rid and do all the hard work yourself

                We got rid of an old [huge] felled apple tree in one morning - tell them to bring a trailer!

                  Now that WOULD be worth having! Apple wood burns beautifully in a woodburner and I think it can be used for giving a distinctive flavour to smoked produce!

                  The turves could be stacked in a heap, grass side down and a cucumber or some other cucurbit planted in the middle to take advantage of the fibrous material.
