the rayburn XT had a large hotplate which is very useful.....and the lower oven is goood for slow cooking casseroles etc....a nice rayburn

My folks have an oil fired rayburn - it drinks oil in a very alarming way. Admittedly they have no idea how it works (only had it for 15 years) and spend each day turning it up and turning it down, but still............
They get through almost a 900 litre tank every 6 weeks!!!!

Don't have a rayburn...but that's an INCREDIBLE amount! We only use 1000 per year to heat our house! Seriously expensive!

allotmentlady, I am leaning towards the XT, do you actually have XT? what do you make of the doors not being cast iron.

tootles, I will only be firing it up as required and not running it like an Aga so it shouldn't be to hard on the oil consumption.

Jardiniere, I did look at the woodburning version of the rayburn but I don't have a chimmney for the flue and don't want a metal pipe out the side of the house.

It doesnt affect it in anyway, the doors not being cast iron, if your after a rayburn, buy this one. I somtimes wish I had an aga.

Thanks for the quick response. I have a 4-oven Aga in our Glasgow House cost an fortune to put in and I hated it, much prefer rayburn over Aga.

The heat that the Aga puts out in the kitchen is awful and it is housed in a very large kitchen.
