I use an enamel cleaner and a blade scraper to clean the outside and a wire brush to clean inside the oven and the hotplate
I think you can get touch up enamel from somewhere - don't know where though sorry

Cheers for that link Sarz, hours of browsing ahead, and rest assured you truly wouldnt be envious if you could see the state of it.

Coomber, ta for that, I will have to go and find an enamel cleaner. The wire brush is already worn down to a stump, and thats just the oven.

We run a professional cleaning company and I'd recommend using Jangro oven cleaner (prod number bb020 - you might have to have to posted to you). This is fantastic stuff, no burning on skin or retching lungs up like the normal 'household' Mr M*scle carp.

Simply paint it on with a paintbrush, have a cuppa tea and sanger, scrap off with blades / wire brush.

The enamel on the oven is baked on, like powder coating or jewlery so I don't think a normal email paint will work.

Perhaps, after all the effort and time you're taking it might be worth having it sandblasted in & outside and then re-enameled?

Yes - you can get an enamel repair kit! try the aga links mentioned above.
Aga sell various cleaning products they work well but they do cost you.
The top oven should be self cleaning due to the very high temp that it runs at, and should just need the occasional sweep out.
try google for 'how to clean a rayburn'

I use a Brillo pad on my (cold )Rayburn on the outside. I've never cleaned the inside(beastly cow!!)

Lizzylemon, if only I had the cash thats exactly what I would do, although would most certainly need a dictionary check beforehand, not knowing the word for shotblasting in French. Tsk, how remiss of me, I shall go and look right now.

ha what fun! you could do a charades type request instead - keep the locals entertained for months talking about the mad english chap who wanted a sand blaster.

We lived in spain for a while and needed a render flicker (small silver contraption with side handle that flicks render at walls) and discovered the local description was miming the handle turning or something close to bicycle!!

Seriously suggest the cleaning product - it is fantastic & lifts grease like no ones business & its super cheap too.
